Being a curious person I always try to get a first-hand impression of things. The internet, various books and fellow travellers are good sources of information but making experiences myself is still the best input. Thus today I once again made myself a subject of science and went to compare Thai and Khmer massage. The area around the old market seemed like a good spot for that with heaps of massage places around.
Those are not necessarily all places where one is offered a happy ending but they are still not the best that little money can buy. I got a recommendation for a spa from a local expat. There was nobody outside the place to drag me in which is usually a good sign. Means they have enough customers cause they are good.
Like at a proper massage place in Thailand I got my feet washed and was shown into a room where I could change into some traditional clothes. The actual massage was very similar to the Thai version, too. The muscles get warmed up with what could be described as a regular massage.
After that the fun starts with limbs being pulled, knees in Louisiana back and a woman walking around on me. Coming out of the building I was puzzled for a moment. The vehicles are quite common but around here the only sign of American military presence in SEA.
The French part of Cambodian history is more visible with many hotels and shops having French names. Siem Reap itself is not really my cup of tea. I understand that these guys desperately need money and I always smile and shake my head massage happy ending siem reap Lafayette they get really annoying after a while.
Civil war and millions of land mines leave traces. That never happened to me in Thailand. Even though Siem Reap sees a lot of tourists, people are still curious about their guests and not yet dulled by millions of shitheads who want a cheap holiday without the slightest bit of respect for culture and people. Tomorrow I want to go to Battambang to have a look at the less touristy Cambodia. The city is number four on the list of major Cambodian tourist destinations but as it has no spectacular attractions whatsoever it sees far fewer visitors than Siem Reap, Phnom Phen and Sihanoukville, massage happy ending siem reap Lafayette.
Angkor Wat, Louisiana, described as the mother of all temples and probably the largest religious building in the world. I saved it for the last day of my temple tour and was excited to get there. After splurging with tuk-tuk rides the last two days it was time to be a backpacker again and get onto a bicycle. Visiting the temples by bicycle has the added benefit of seeing more along the way and being able to stop everywhere.
I made a first stop at the moat that surrounds Angkor Wat. Next to where I was standing a Cambodian woman in modest clothes was fiddling around with her mobile. When I was about to leave she asked if I could spare a minute and help her with her phone. I did not expect that. Not ten minutes later I got in touch with even more people apart from the ever-present dealers. I was watching the entrance of Angkor Wat when an old guy started to talk to me in French. He continued to smoke cigarettes with a monk as old as him.
Inside the temple area I almost stumbled over a wild monkey Continue reading Temple Finale Before heading to Angkor today I went into town to have a look at the local market. Incredibly cramped and everything is for sale. As my need for souvenirs is pretty much covered I was mostly looking for food and interesting photo opportunities. The Khmer food has been a bit of a disappointment so far.
Obviously those are illegal reprints of inferior quality but still I found myself in a dilemma. Buying the proper book supports the author but most of the money will go to the publisher and other westerners. Buying the copy here cuts the author out but the money goes to some poor Cambodian souls.
I decided to support the locals. The read has been very unsettling so far. More on that later. Back from the market my tuk-tuk driver was awaiting me eagerly — since the morning he already asked me thrice what time I want to go to the temples.
Just after noon we left for Angkor Thom, ancient capital and home to a couple of different temples. As a clarification, Angkor Wat is just one temple, Louisiana. Inside is — among others — the temple that is considered by many as the second best in Angkor: Bayon.
They represent the omnipresence of the king, somewhat of an ancient big brother. Around the first level of the temple are bas-reliefs depicting important historical events, Louisiana. The inside of the temple is a maze of hallways and creates a nice Indiana-Jones-feeling. Other sights in Angkor Thom include Baphuon, massage happy ending siem reap Lafayette, the royal palace area, the terrace of the elephants and the terrace of the leper king. As you can see the weather is pretty cloudy.
Four of five hours Louisiana I had enough of massage chinatown bellaire with happy ending Palmdale, California and went to find my driver. I found him happily asleep in the tuk-tuk. The monetary system in the country is pretty unique. The official currency, Riel, is close to worthless.
Everybody uses the dollar and the riel is used for fractions as no USD coins are used. I have to spend all my riel before I leave the country, no bank outside Cambodia accepts them.
